Organizational Skills
Organizational skills are very valuable. Unfortunately, most of us lack these skills. Figuring out how to organize can pose one of the biggest challenges we face for nearly any task. Consider all of the different occasions that call upon organization and planning in advance and you have a pretty good picture of how important it is to know how to organize.
We need to use our organizational skills for just about every aspect of our lives. This includes our laundry, paperwork and special events. There are some secrets to developing strategies on how to organize effectively. Whether you are planning a wedding or just making room in your closet you really can benefit from following some general guidelines.
The first guideline in the quest to learn how to organize is to write things down. Don’t fill your mind with unnecessary information that can be put on to paper. For example, you would write what items will go into each junk drawer in your home. Even when you don’t know how to organize you benefit from making lists.
The next guideline in your quest to learn how to organize is to take small steps. Any project can be overwhelming if you try to take on too much all at once. For example, you can choose to spend 15 minutes to an hour a day sorting through and organizing one or two junk drawers or you can choose to spend and entire hectic day sorting through all of them.
Taking the 15 minute per day approach may seem as if it will get you nowhere but it really works. Consider choosing a specific area, file or whatever you need to learn how to organize and focus just on that. In the drawer example, you have several junk drawers that are filled with random things. Just work on one drawer at a time.
Take items out of the one drawer that is your focus. The next step in the quest on learning how to organize involves materials. Gather containers that are labeled with different subjects and keep a trash can close by. Organize the items according to type and put the items that go into the drawer according to your list. You’re done for the day or you can proceed to the next drawer.
Once you learn how to organize you will find that the process goes faster and faster each time. By the time that you are proficient in your organizational skills you won’t really need them. You will already have everything in its place.
