Should surveillance equipment make it to the fabric of our society, really.. Many people feel there’s an increasing need to provide security with surveillance equipment for people as criminality rises in many parts of the world. They still don’t want the government to be able to watch their every move though. So there’s sort of a conflict between the two wants and needs. People want their cake and eat it too. The reality is this: You cannot have 100% assured security for every body, all the time. No matter how many are part of the landscape and society. Also,we need to realize the importance and value of privacy rights. Some people will say people who value their privacy are naive and that they have to wake up to the new realities of the world and it’s security challenges. While it is true there are well being challenges, often people who ask for greater surveillance power and more spy equipment don’t make a case and prove that their current methods, equipment and operations are not effective enough and that it warrants the need for greater powers. Most of the time greater powers are not required. More surveillance equipment are usually not required. So as you hear authorities ask for more powers, ask some tough questions and expect them to provide real good answers with facts backing their assessments.
